The African American Museum of Nassau County is centrally located in Hempstead, NY at 110 North Franklin St. (at the corner of Jackson and Franklin Sts.)

 

Getting Here...

 

Westbound From Eastern Long Island

Southern State Pkwy W. to exit 19N, Peninsula Blvd.  Go approx. 6 lights to the intersection of N. Franklin St.  Turn left (there is a McDonalds on the corner), and go approx. 4 lights to the intersection of N. Franklin and Jackson Sts.  The museum is on the right hand corner of Jackson St.  Limited parking is in the rear of the building.  Municipal Parking lots are available nearby (see neighborhood photo below).

OR 

Northern Pkwy to Meadowbrook Pkwy South, get off at exit M4, Hempstead Tpke West.  Follow Hempstead Turnpike until it becomes Fulton Avenue (approx. 5 miles).  At the intersection of N. Franklin St, turn right and go approx. 3 lights to Jackson St.  The museum is on the right hand corner of Jackson St. 

 

 From Manhattan

 Take the LIE Eastbound to Exit 38 Northern State Pkwy.  Follow Northern State to Meadowbrook Pkwy South. Get off at exit M4, Hempstead Tpke West.  Follow Hempstead Turnpike until it becomes Fulton Avenue (approx. 5 miles).  At the intersection of N. Franklin St, turn right and go approx. 3 lights to Jackson St.  The museum is on the right hand corner of Jackson St. 

  

Long Island Railroad from Manhattan

From Penn Station, take the Hempstead Line to the last stop (Hempstead).  Walk south one block to Jackson Street. Turn right and walk one block to the main entrance at the intersection of Franklin St.

 

Bus From Queens 

Take the N6 from Jamaica to the Hempstead Bus Terminal.  Turn right and walk one block to the main entrance at the intersection of Franklin St. 

 

Parking 

Municipal parking lots are located along Jackson St.  Meter parking is also available on Franklin, Jackson and all cross streets (see neighborhood photo below).
